CASE 01Cracking

Brittle cracking in a finished automotive PA part

THE PROBLEM

The finished part showed occasional brittle-crack rejects—an intermittent quality problem that could not be explained by shade alone.

WHAT WE FOUND

The pigment system and the PA resin were not working together well enough. Their physical-property mismatch and the formulation balance were contributing to molding stress.

WHAT WE CHANGED

We re-matched pigment physical properties to the PA resin system and rebalanced the masterbatch for better compatibility and lower molding stress.

PROJECT OUTCOME

Finished-part cracking was reduced to zero under the validated project production conditions.

CASE 02Grey-out

Grey and dull color in a flame-retardant component

THE PROBLEM

A color that looked acceptable during sampling became greyish and dull in mass production.

WHAT WE FOUND

The flame-retardant package was interacting with the color system and causing color loss, reducing saturation and perceived brightness.

WHAT WE CHANGED

We developed a dedicated flame-retardant-compatible formulation with stronger hiding power and improved color fastness.

The project achieved no visible color difference between the approved sample and mass production.

CASE 03Color decomposition

Yellowing and color decomposition around 300°C

THE PROBLEM

During development, the electrical plastic part yellowed and the target color began to decompose at the required process conditions.

WHAT WE FOUND

The original color system did not have sufficient thermal stability for the heat history of the polymer and molding process.

WHAT WE CHANGED

We selected a dedicated high-temperature pigment system and reformulated around processing at approximately 300°C.

Color remained stable under the project process conditions and the part moved into continuous mass production.

CASE 04Migration

Migration and fading after heat and boiling-water testing

THE PROBLEM

A bright PA part showed migration and fading after high-temperature processing and a 2-hour boiling-water test.

WHAT WE FOUND

Testing traced the failure to pigment decomposition under heat, followed by instability during boiling-water exposure.

WHAT WE CHANGED

We optimized the pigment-additive system to improve thermal stability and keep the colorant inside the polymer system.

The project retained bright color with zero visible migration under the validated processing and test conditions.

CASE 05Black spots

Recurring black spots after injection molding

THE PROBLEM

Black spots kept appearing on a home-appliance housing after injection molding, preventing visually acceptable mass production.

WHAT WE FOUND

Because the defect could arise from material, contamination or process history, the source had to be screened step by step.

WHAT WE CHANGED

We worked through process variables in sequence and optimized the source responsible for black-spot formation.
